The Department for Environment and Water aims to help South Australians conserve, sustain and prosper.

Our landscapes underpin our communities, our economy, our wellbeing and our way of life, which is why we all have a responsibility to protect and manage our state's landscapes for the enjoyment of all South Australians.

The department works in partnership with eight regional Landscape South Australia boards, responsible for administering the Landscape South Australia Act 2019. A new entity Green Adelaide will also bring an integrated approach to managing Adelaide's urban environment. A key priority of landscape boards is to support local communities and landowners to be directly responsible for sustainably managing their region's landscapes with an emphasis on land and water management, pest animal and plant control, and biodiversity. This includes providing greater funding and partnership opportunities with local community organisations to deliver on ground works and projects.

The Department for Environment and Water is currently offering the following grants:

Friends of Parks Small Grants 2022/23 - The Friends of Parks - Small Grants Program is focused on conservation-based activities including the conservation of biodiversity, Aboriginal cultural heritage or European heritage activities across national parks and reserves, and the broader landscape where the outcomes are consistent with the objectives of the National Parks and Wildlife Act 1972. This may also include the purchase of minor plant/equipment and other materials/services that supports a group’s project conservation outcomes.

Grant funding is available for activities up to 12 months in duration, with the project commencing when payment is received.

Landscape Priorities Fund 2022/23 - The Landscape Priorities Fund (LPF) is an initiative of the South Australian Government and is established under the Landscape South Australia Act 2019. The Landscape Priorities Fund is administered by the Department for Environment and Water on behalf of the Minister for Climate, Environment and Water. The LPF consists of 2 streams with one being the Regional Landscape Board Partnership Grants. The Landscape Board Partnership Grants provide the opportunity for landscape boards, working in partnership with other organisations, groups and individuals, to invest in large-scale integrated landscape management projects that address sub-regional, cross-regional and state-wide priorities.

Government Owned Heritage Fund 2022/23 - The Government Owned Heritage (GOH) Fund supports the conservation of state-owned State Heritage Places, through the provision of professional and financial assistance. Applications are open for State-government agencies who own and/or manage government-owned State Heritage Places and incorporated bodies who occupy or care for government-owned State Heritage Places under agreement with the State Government.

The GOH Fund is administered by the Department for Environment and Water - Heritage SA. Projects will be assessed against the objectives and criteria outlined in the GOH Fund Operating Guidelines. Any reference to GOH Fund Operating Guidelines shall also include Heritage Building Conservation Program (HBCP) Operating Guidelines.

Regional Landscape Board Partnership Grants 2021/22 - The Landscape Priorities Fund (LPF) is an initiative of the South Australian Government and is established under the Landscape South Australia Act 2019. The Fund is administered by the Department for Environment and Water on behalf of the Minister for Environment and Water. The LPF consists of 2 streams, one being the Regional Landscape Board Partnership Grants. The Regional Landscape Board Partnership Grants provide the opportunity for landscape boards, working in partnership with other organisations, groups and individuals, to invest in large-scale integrated landscape management projects that address sub-regional, cross-regional and state-wide priorities.
The projects should address priorities for managing, improving and enhancing the State’s landscape and natural resources and could address large landscape management issues such as landscape scale restoration, supporting bushfire recovery, climate resilience and adaptation, sustainable agriculture, and threatened species and ecosystem recovery.
Regional landscape boards are eligible to apply for grants to undertake projects that are to be delivered through partnership arrangements with other organisations, groups and individuals.

Nature-based Tourism Small Grants 2021/22 - The Nature-based Tourism (NBT) Small Grants Program is a pilot project funded under the $5 million Nature-based Tourism Co-investment Fund, to assist eligible businesses and organisations to deliver innovative, sustainable tourism experiences in South Australia.
The NBT Small Grants Program offers a total of $300,000 in grant funding for small-scale, innovative projects that will support tourism activation in South Australia. The purpose of the NBT Small Grants Program is to create new tourism experiences including seasonal or pop-up experiences, as well as tourism/regional events in nature, parks and public places.
New nature-based tourism experiences will create opportunities for visitors to develop a sense of personal connection that will endeavour to encourage them to become life-long supporters and advocates of nature and heritage conservation. Innovative projects connecting visitors to nature are encouraged.

Heritage Tourism Grants 2021/22 - The Heritage Tourism Grants program is a key initiative of ‘Growing Our Heritage Future: A 10-year strategy for heritage tourism in South Australia’, which provides a framework for enhancing and developing heritage tourism opportunities across South Australia.
The pilot $250,000 program aims to encourage accessible and adaptive reuse of state and local heritage listed places for tourism purposes. By leveraging the character and unique appeal of heritage places to create exceptional experiences we can grow the South Australian visitor economy, as well as support the long-term conservation of the state’s special places.
Grants of up to $50,000, provided on a matched funding basis, will support projects that enable the activation and use of State or Local heritage-listed Places or State Heritage areas for tourism purposes.

SA Heritage Conservation Grants Program 2022/23 - South Australia has a rich heritage that contributes to our quality of life and connects us to our history and stories. The Heritage Conservation Grant Program aims to provide multiple benefits and help conserve and activate heritage places and areas, including adaptive reuse of historic buildings, benefitting the broader community, supporting heritage trades and providing support for State Heritage Places and Areas in the regions.
